Constructivism was a movement based on art and architecture
which was founded in or originated in
Russia in the early years of the 20th centaury 1919.
Constructivism influenced a lot of artists and architectures
of the 20th centaury even other movements such as Bauhaus and De-stijl.
Most of the impact it made was on Graphics industrial design theater film
fashion even music.
Constructivism excluded the idea of art art’s sake and
instead encouraged social ideas and practices. It was also the last and most
influential movement of modern art that made a very big impact in Russia during
the 20th centaury.
Constructivism was also a pillar of hope for which it helped boost up the ideas
of many-advanced Russian artist who supported the revolution and the goals
which I will talk about soon in the research I made. Cubism, Futurism and
Separatism were some of the ideas borrowed. but still it was a new begging and
a new approach to design and making objects which ended the tradition of many artists.
Modern Material and mass production was one of the key
factors of constructivism it focused on
ideas from different artists to apply it
from the studio to the factory .These artist had a major impact in
spreading Constructivism. By the mid 1920s constructivism started to decline
somewhat the Bolshevik regime increased the intimidation to Avant grand art.
But still constructivism continued to motivate many artists from the west and
creating another movement called International Constructivism which originated
in Germany in the 1920s and whose legacy endured into the 1950s.
Suprematism
Supermatism was a new logical developing or you can also
call it a philosophy that wanted to free design, art and architecture from the
need of conventional methods of demonstration from which Russian artists took
Cubism as a source of inspiration. A
visual grammar or process was developed to freely allow combination of
uncomplicated shapes which where served as a foundation and help the new artistic architectural areas.
This topic focuses on a lot of different ideas and aspects
of different uses from Graphic Design to Photography sculpture and architecture
but mainly I wanted to focus my research on design on architecture and product
designs.
Constructivism introduced new ways of design in architecture
and buildings. Very different new outlandish styles were introduced in the
1920’s from shapes of cylinders, perfect squares, circles and bold combinations
which developed along side the domes and spires of the traditional or orthodox
church. Many supremacist graphical parsing’s were applied on high buildings
factories and complexes.
The most famous Architecture project was the proposition
for the headquarters in St Petersburg by the futurist Vladimir Tatlin which was
also called the Tatlin’s Tower. The tatlin tower was never build but it is still
is a symbol of revolution and modernism . The building was met to be
constructed of iron, glass and steel
Below is one of the five small scaled tower to display
the idea. If it had to be constructed in full scale it would have dwarfed the
Eiffel tower of Paris in France.
Vladimir tatlin was often called the father of
constructivism he also collaborated with the cubo Futurist but his ideas
shifted during a visit in Paris France.
Mostly influenced by the work of
Picassos series of wooden relief. As he returned to Russia He began o
experiment his ideas and influences and looked for different possibilities on
how to use 3D reliefs .
Constructivism was truly born when Tatlin exhibited his
idea of the monument for the thirds
International in 1919-20.
Constructivism also
focused on A lot of graphic work in early soviet visuals shapes and bold colors
where mostly used in the designs .
El Lissitzky, 1919 war propaganda.
Constructivism
Suddenly ended when the government followed a loss of power because of the
death of Lenin in 1924 and ended in Stalin’ doctorial powered of the country. A
lot of Constructivism artists and designers who did co-operate retired from the
normal public life and left Russia or received a visit from police,
Although
the movement ended in the early 20yh centaury the style continued to influence
other movements, which spread the ideas of pure shapes, flat colours and formal
orders in the Bauhaus and the new typographers.
The Constructivists' still informs
professional design practices today, which continues to insist that design
issues are problems to be solved through an unprejudiced development.
