Futurism

Futurism

This Movement originated in 1990 by Filipe Tommaso Marinetti which he was a writer. Futurism as it is pronounced has the word future it focused on different concepts of the future which included technology , speed , the youth of the future car , aero planes and the urban city of the future .The movement was an artistic and social movement which was founded in Italy in the early 20's centaury as i mentioned in the beginning the movement was founded in Milan in 1909 which was published in a  the Futurist manifesto as an article in an Italian News Paper the article was reproduced even in the news paper of France Marinetti tried to explain his vision of not wanting a part of the old past, He wanted something different something futuristic full of speed and movement he wanted something original that could change the era at that time. He mainly focused on art, architecture, religion views fashion and even cooking. The futurists were thought in every aspect of art and design even film and music. they had roots in everything ,that’s why it was described as a social movement .Much of the ideas in Futurism came from the writing of different articles the breaking of subjects and the detail of  obsession in the subjects. Marinetti had a very obscured vision of what he wanted to create in the movement.

Fortunato Depero was a painter and a sculptor who started a craft workshop for art called the House of Futurist Art "Casa d'Arte Futurista" which mainly specialized in the production of toys tapestries and furniture always focusing on the futurist style.
Another well known architect who joined the movement in 1914 was Antonio sant Elia .He was influenced by the industrial urban cities of America .His designs were at an extrem style with was monolithic skyscrapers large bridges and walkways .Although Sant ELias Died in 1916,His Manifesto for Futurist Architecture remained very influential most of all to members of De Stijl .

Futurism was in described in some way a destructive movement very aggressive and focused on the machine -age during the urban life.

Futurism also sparked important different developments outside Italy .The movement influenced Russia in the early 19th centaury  inspiring artists like Kazmir Malevich and Natalia Goncharova .The movement in Russia was very different from the Italian style it focused more on cubo-futurist which also made an impact on English Art.

Another example which made a lot of influence on the futurists was the film Metropolis it had a dramatic influence on many issues. It shows a future civilization and large views of the cities it was a clear description of what the futurist thought and how a future city would look like .the film is an amazing work and example of the futurist movement of the 1920.

Futurism didn’t last long as many of the artist where lured to the Fascist Politics and eventually war started and changed everything .But still Futurism is still a great inspirational language of modern design  although a century passed it still looks futuristic and modern.
